I never take for granted how lucky I am to have the chance to go to really cool things through my day job. When we got asked by one of our DSP’s if we wanted to go to the Stranger Things Secret Cinema a few months ago I jumped at the chance. I’m such a huge Stranger Things fan. I felt like I was literally counting down the hours because I was that excited. Since I got diagnosed with endometriosis, I’ve been too tired from the anaemia to go to many social things. I spent the weeks leading up to this absolutely PRAYING I would be well enough. Fortunately for once in my life I had a bit of decent luck and I felt absolutely fine.
You have to submit your phone to be locked away at the start of Secret Cinema so I couldn’t get any pictures or videos from actually inside the venue. They go to quite a lot of effort to keep it secret and not spoil it for anyone going too, so I’m certainly not going to do that in a blog post.
Before you go, you will get an email with a code that lets you sign up to find out what your dress code is. We were able to choose, and I chose “movers & shakers” which was like basically a real 80s vibe. The people in the picture were all wearing jumpsuits and had big hair. I wore my leopard print catsuit that I gave myself concussion in so all I was hoping for on the night was no head injuries.
When you arrive at Secret Cinema you are greeted by someone from your group who will give you instructions. It is then up to you to go to the various places around the funfair set-up and find clues. We got a little bit lost here and there but if you go with friends it is easy enough to join someone else’s group. Food-wise, there are plenty of different options, including loads of vegetarian ones. I had a hotdog and it was incredible!
Although I have ever visited Secret Cinema, I know that they usually screen the film. The set up for Stranger Things was a bit different. I don’t want to spoil this for anyone going but the ending was BREATHTAKING. I went home and I couldn’t get to sleep co I was still buzzing with excitement. You might look at this event and think the tickets are a bit pricey, but I promise you they are worth every penny.
