Moving WordPress to self-hosted?

So, what about moving WordPress to self-hosted?

A lot of the time when people ask me how often I blog I sheepishly tell them about once a week. As my understanding of the blogger world has matured – I’ve become well aware this isn’t enough to enjoy any form ‘big success’. As my full time job will always come first, and I struggle to even blog, dreams of going self-hosted were put firmly on the back burner. As much as I’d love to have more control over my blog it just wasn’t feasible to allocate that much time to such a task. Moving WordPress to self-hosted went to the back of my “to do” pile with descaling the kettle and becoming a nicer person.

It was always something on the to-do list that was basically not going to get done, ever. Then, while browsing on Bloggers Required I found out something that was pretty much brand new information to me. Unfortunately, you cannot do things like make money from Adsense, unless your blog is self-hosted.

You can use a company for moving WordPress to self-hosted.

Blogger2WP were offering a full, turn-key service that moved your blog over for you and dealt with all of the fiddly bits like links, layouts and keeping your SEO. Moving WordPress to self-hosted isn’t just time consuming; one false move and you could seriously mess up your blog.

Laura from Blogger2WP took all of my passwords (you can change them to a temporary one for security) and basically dealt with everything. All I had to do at my end was set up the hosting. I use Siteground and I haven’t had any major issues so far. They are quite cheap as well. (If you are signing up I’d be forever grateful oif you used my aff link: .

Within two days my blog was moved over and self-hosted. It was as simple as that. Laura lent quite a bit of support afterwards with things like setting up the theme to link to Instagram etc. She also offered help down the line if there is anything I need. Could I have done it myself? Yes. I’m a programmatic media buyer. I literally spend my day neck deep in HTML5, tags, pixels and various other forms of complicated ad tech on a daily basis. But was I ever going to get round to having the time to do it? No, never.
