When my wedding invitation came to my friend Hayley’s wedding at Ye Olde Plough House, I just thought of it as another wedding I’d go to solo. Things like that don’t really bother me. I’ve been single for a couple of years by choice (not MY choice, but there you go). I certainly didn’t expect it roll around to the wedding with me having a date to take and it to be someone I actually like (not going to say too much though and let him read my blog and get all big headed). So we did what any cute, excited new people seeing each other would do and stayed over at Ye Old Plough House. He had the task of meeting all of my friends in one go with some alcohol thrown into the mix.
Ye Olde Plough House, Essex Wedding Venue. What is the hotel like?
I get a bit worried about what I sound like when I’m reviewing hotels. I usually stay in fairly nice hotels like the DoubleTree Hilton in Docklands, Lifehouse & The Chelsea Harbour Hotel so I get that it makes me sound snobby that I like my hotels to be a little bit more luxurious than Ye Old Plough House. I work hard for my monies so I see no issue with spending it on things I enjoy like nice hotels rooms. The rooms at Ye Olde Plough House are very similar to chalets. They are a bit basic and the bathrooms are a bit small but they were very clean. At one point the TV made a bit of a crackling noise, which was concerning. We didn’t blow up though so we live to tell the tale. GREAT SUCCESS.
As an Essex wedding venue, Ye Olde Plough House is lovely. There are two bars that connect to a huge main hall that can comfortably fit around 7 to 8 tables. The best bit is the outdoor area has the cutest little stream and if you get good wedding day weather you could spend most of the day outside taking pretty pictures.
We arrived to beautiful sunshine about 4pm and this is one of those places where the weather makes everything that little bit nicer. As we were only going to the evening we had a chance to nap which is something that makes any Saturday particularly happy for me. Getting ready was a bit of a challenge as the light in the room wasn’t great so it was a bit of a mission doing my make up. I’d pre-warned all of my friends that they needed to be nice to the guy I was seeing and not do anything too outrageous. Which was going fine until I had to pop back to the room and my friend Lisa said “Kelly has got the biggest heart and if you break it I will hurt you”. Whoops.
To be fair though you never know where you stand with some people. Two hours after this she threw her shoes at me because I said she was going to be hungover! Needless to say I hid them and then she cut her foot open. FAIL.
The wedding reception was so cute. The couple had their first dance to the song from Twilight and even this cold-hearted ice-queen nearly shed a tear when that happened. There was also a giant conga at some point and a very questionable photo booth picture. I mean honestly, who trusts ME with the caption?
The photo booth was really good. I’ll definitely look into hiring “The Only Way is Selfies” for my next event. They were even pretty calm about me writing the word “tosser”!
